ough the merits of my Saviour, to receive pardon of all my sins

Item: To my two sons, Michael Wilhoit and Conrad Wilhoit two hun
dred of acres of land joingin John Towles the open line andRobe
rt Huckerson to be laid of tto the greatest convience of both i
n case of disagreement for each to choose a man to act for them.
Item: I lend to my beloved wife, Catherine Wilhoit, all the res
t of my estate during her widowhood. In case she married, one s
orrel mare and her increases, two cows, two sows, one feather be
d and furniture, a poplar chest, one iron pot and frying pan. I
n case she dies a widow, all of her part of my estate to be equa
lly divided amoung my children, except those that I have left la

Came with parents, with the Second German Colony, which were Eva
ngelical Lutherans who left Germany, July 12 1717 enroute to Pen
nsylvania. Their ship captain was detained in London, & impriso
ned for debt. Their food supplies dwindled as they waited and s
everal died of starvation at sea. They were not landed in Penn.
, but all 100 passengers were taken up the Rappahannock & sold a
s indentured servants, to Spotswood, to pay for their passag
e & their belongings were confiscated. Eight years later, Spots
wood sued to force them into another year of service. Tobias i
s listed with the 2nd group of patentees in 1728 for 289 acres i
n present Madison Co, to Heron Valley near the Robinson River.
He was naturalized in 1736

I, Tobias Wilhoit, of the County of Culpepper, Virginia, and par
rish of Brumfield, beingof perfect senses and membory do make t
his my last will and testment in manner and form following:
First: I give my soul into almight God that gave it, hoping thr
ough the merits of my Saviour, to receive pardon of all my sins
, and my body I bequeath to the earth in sure and certain hope
s of its resurection to eternal life, to be decently interred a
t the descreation of my executrix and executors hereafter named
Item: To my two sons, Michael Wilhoit and Conrad Wilhoit two hun
dred of acres of land joingin John Towles the open line andRobe
rt Huckerson to be laid of tto the greatest convience of both i
n case of disagreement for each to choose a man to act for them.
Item: I lend to my beloved wife, Catherine Wilhoit, all the res
t of my estate during her widowhood. In case she married, one s
orrel mare and her increases, two cows, two sows, one feather be
d and furniture, a poplar chest, one iron pot and frying pan. I
n case she dies a widow, all of her part of my estate to be equa
lly divided amoung my children, except those that I have left la
nd, and Mary Broyles if she marries, what is here mentioned, t
o be taken out, and the rest of myestate to be divided at the d
ay of marriage.
Item: I leave my two youngestsons, Jesse and William Wilhoit
, the land that I have lent to my wife Catherine, to be equall
y divided betwixt these two sons, in case they should, or iethe
r die with out issue, the said land to the next youngest son, t
o them and their heirs forever, I having disposed ot my estate a
bove, I do appoint my wife Catherine and two sons, Michael and C
